I’ve always loved painting owls, the shape of their faces and the orientation of their eyes gives them a familiar look that is is almost human. I often try to use these facial features to develop the personality I'm imagining for each owl while I'm painting them. The glint in the eye and the confidence to stare right at the viewer gives this bird a sense of grandeur to go along with effortless European style.
