Artwork Description

The painting shows a Robinia tree in early Spring with new leaves. A shadow of the tree is projected onto the surrounding fence and wall duplicating the image.
I have observed this view many times before and it was only this year that I was able to paint it.

Artist Bio

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

Paul was born in Sydney, grew up in country NSW and have lived in Australia for most of my life, except for a 5 year period in the UK and Mexico in the 1970’s.

Paul trained as an Architect at UNSW and Newcastle Universities. His practice included drawing and painting. Paul exhibited work in the 1970s and 1980's in collective shows and produced illustrations/cartoons for publications. He also produced images and animation for films, as well as working in architectural practices. Since 1995 he has further developed his painting skills, including undertaking the occasional short course.

Paul’s interests revolve around landscape, broadly defined to include both urban and rural scenes. He looks for ways to represent and compose aspects of the landscape that interest him, a continually challenging task, that involves devising new ways of recording perceptions of his surroundings.

The media Paul uses include oil paint, watercolour, gouache, drawing & photography. He sometimes works 'en plein air' other paintings are completed in the studio from photographs and sketches done on site. Over the past 7 years Paul has had 3 individual exhibitions.

The last exhibition was held at Vienna Cottage in Hunters Hill where he exhibited 21 paintings of local landscapes primarily of the Field of Mars and sites around Gladesville, Hunters Hill and the local bushland and harbour. The bushland scenes were an attempt to gain some understanding of the continual change in vegetation and mood of this complex environment.
