Paula Gillespie is a reemerging artist whose practice is grounded in a lifelong connection to visual storytelling. A graduate of Kingston University’s BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Painting), Paula painted professionally for a year following university, exhibiting in group and solo shows across London and the north of England before her creative career was paused to pursue further training in art psychotherapy. Paula's work is primarily in large-scale oil and acrylic paintings, and mixed media.
Now based in Adelaide, South Australia, Paula returns to create work with a fresh perspective and emotional depth, drawing from her rich background in mental health, and expressive therapies. Her paintings explore the layered interplay of memory, and gesture; often centring themes of motherhood, identity, and resilience. Using layered oil techniques, gestural mark-making and collage, Paula creates work that is reflective and emotionally resonant. She draws inspiration from both material texture and psychological terrain, crafting surfaces that invite slow, intuitive engagement.
Her work is currently held in private collections in the UK and Australia. Paula is based in Adelaide and is building a new body of work for exhibition in 2026.
