La Trobe

This park is found just outside the State Library at Melbourne Central, featuring lovely dappled shade where people relax and eat their lunch under the watchful gaze of La Trobe. Capturing the sense of tranquility felt in this small haven that sits in the midst of a busy city this work showcases an iconic space that all Melbournites will recognise.

Paula Maggs is an expressionist artist living and working in Melbourne. Her intuitive painting style conveys intense emotional states through colour and gestural mark making.
Maggs seeks to utilize the materiality of the paint to express psychological states. Her underlying concern is to dig beneath the facade of what it means to be human.
She completed a Master of Fine Art (with distinction) at RMIT in 2023.
Maggs has exhibited in both group and solo shows around Melbourne, as well as participating in a residency for Melbourne Fashion Week in 2021.
Previous study includes a Bachelor of Design Arts (with distinction) in 2021 from LCI Melbourne.
