Shelley-Ann Rigby (b.1979) is multi-disciplinary artist based in Boorloo/ Perth. Over the years, Rigby has been cultivating and exploring different mediums, from expressionate paint pours, to technical wood burnings and currently limited pallet oil paintings. Her current body of work is centered on the female form, using dramatic light and shade to highlight the power of the female spirit.
Her recent paintings refer back to her early years as a studio portrait photographer where she developed her skills in chiaroscuro lighting and technical posing. Expanding upon this early training, Rigby reimagines the female form through gestural mark making, limited, yet vivid colour fields and dramatic contrast to express emotional intensity in her work. The figures act as a canvas to her own identity and are representations of moments in her life, with the colours used as symbols of this emotional journey.
