Daisies in a Shell Vase

Inspired by Sando Botticelli's Birth of Venus painting and historic Italian Renaissance grottoes.

A closer look at the cloak held by the young woman in Birth of Venus reveals that it is covered in tiny white flowers. I have brought these flowers to the forefront in this work, and depicted them in a vase shaped as a shell – another repeating motif.

Penny is an emerging artist from Perth, Western Australia. In her artistic practice, Penny draws much inspiration from the natural and anthropomorphic world. Her versatility as a painter is expressed through the varied approaches of representational, figurative and abstract genres. Penny’s style is diverse: from expressive loose brushwork, to more refined detail, to the haptic qualities of the handmade. She embraces colour to its fullest, through which she intends to invoke emotion with her liberal application and intense use of colour.
