"Gate Keeper" by Australian abstract artist PEZ is a thoughtful look at community and quiet resilience. Inspired by North African aesthetics, the painting uses a soft palette of plaster-like blush pinks tone to evoke sun-bleached walls. Weathered charcoal lines and chalky whites ground these gentle hues, adding a rustic, hand-painted texture to the canvas. At the centre of the composition stands a strong, stylised silhouette—a guardian figure acting as a steady anchor for the softer abstract forms leaning inward around it. Hinting at the protective architecture of ancient kasbahs, the piece aims to capture a universal concept/desire... a sense of safety, belonging and shared strength.

Process - I want my images to feel original, there is no mass production here, NO STENCILS, NO SPRAY PAINT. I conceive images and characters then bring them to life with mostly small brushes and palette knives - contextualised within colour and narratives.

Finish - I paint with semi-gloss mediums, so my work has a natural, subtle sheen to it. I avoid gloss varnish. I want my paintings to be seen from all aspects. If I feel the piece needs a sealer I will add that but I don't want my images getting lost behind reflections. I want the images to show the depth and variation of their layers.
STRETCHING & FRAMING
I give my collectors the chance to purchase my paintings unstretched. This gives you the option to take advantage of Bluethumb’s framing or go with unstretched if you want to keep costs down. Working like this also allows the painting to extend around the edges, which means the artwork will look great with or without a decorative frame.
