A Silent Narrative

Charcoal allows me to explore the interplay of light and shadow in a way that is both raw and refined. The combination of inherent softness with bold contrasts echo the subject’s demeanour: resilience paired with reflection, and strength tempered by sensitivity. Each stroke is a deliberate attempt to reveal the complexity of his character, not just a representation of physical beauty, but a silent narrative of contemplation and the profound layers that define us all.
The drawing is mounted on cradled board and varnished with cold wax. It comes ready to hang.

Peta Harvey is a Brisbane-based scientist with a not-so-secret life as an artist. After studying Ceramics at the Australian National University’s School of Art, her creative energy is now focused on developing drawing skills and exploring the freshness and spontaneity of ink and watercolour painting, often in combination with pen or pencil.

Peta exhibits frequently in group shows and has been selected for a variety of curated exhibitions. Most notably, she has been a finalist with her portraits and figurative works in the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize 2022, Lethbridge 20000 Small Scale Art Award (2020-2023, 2026) with a Highly Commended award in 2021, Bluethumb Art Prize 2022, and Revival Art & Design Emerging Artist Prize 2023-2024.
