Artwork Description

"Count to Ten" combines a realistically drawn face and hands carefully rendered in graphite with clothing that is more loosely suggested with tinted charcoal and colour pencil. Whether hiding or simply resting behind her hands, the warmth of the yellow jumper and its softness imply reassurance and solace.
The artwork is custom framed in pale timber.
"Count to Ten" was a gallery finalist in the 2022 Lethbridge 20000 Small Scale Art Award.

Artist Bio

Peta Harvey is a Brisbane-based scientist with a not-so-secret life as an artist. After studying Ceramics at the Australian National University’s School of Art, her creative energy is now focused on developing drawing skills and exploring the freshness and spontaneity of ink and watercolour painting, often in combination with pen or pencil.

Peta exhibits frequently in group shows and has been selected for a variety of curated exhibitions. Most notably, she has been a finalist with her portraits and figurative works in the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize 2022, Lethbridge 20000 Small Scale Art Award (2020-2023, 2026) with a Highly Commended award in 2021, Bluethumb Art Prize 2022, and Revival Art & Design Emerging Artist Prize 2023-2024.
