Oil, Canvas, Ready to hang
122cm (W) x 91cm (H) x 4cm (D)
This was one of the first paintings I made after I broke my neck. My fingers still didn’t work and I struggled with steadiness in my new wheelchair. These new issues meant that I couldn’t dictate the direction of the painting, I could only paint within my capabilities. Hence the digital planning and the choppy broken unrefined brushwork to complete each layer. I got a grant to help me with my artwork so these are painted on super sturdy professional canvases. It’ll be sad to see them go as they were the first I was happy with but they’re taking up too much room in the studio…time for a clear out!
Pete Conroy is an English artist based in Echuca. He focuses his attention on portraits and distortion of the human face and figure. Using traditional techniques mixed with a modern style he paints humans with impossibly stretched facial features and limbs. Where the shape and structure of his subjects are out of sync with reality he attempts to bring the characters back into the realistic realm with a mix of modern and traditional techniques of oil painting.
