The Party Pooper

I love the juxtaposition of a birthday party hat representing childhood glee combined with the the imagery of a grumpy old man. It’s an image we all recognise and remember as kids and we all end up filling those grumpy shoes as we age. Through this painting I hope we can recognise ourselves and others and raise a smile at the same time.

Pete Conroy is an English artist based in Echuca. He focuses his attention on portraits and distortion of the human face and figure. Using traditional techniques mixed with a modern style he paints humans with impossibly stretched facial features and limbs.
Where the shape and structure of his subjects are out of sync with reality he attempts to bring the characters back into the realistic realm with a mix of modern and traditional techniques of oil painting.
