Peter Howson has had the biggest influence on my artistic career out of all. He was my favourite artist that I came across at 9 years old and he remains my favourite artist today. There aren’t many things/movies/songs etc… that are your favourite in primary school and continue to be when you’re middle aged so he clearly made an impression. Every month or so I always make an attempt to appropriate an artists work that I admire. I’ll copy a study or a section of a piece or the entire piece itself in the hopes of absorbing some of their technique and process.
Pete Conroy is an English artist based in Echuca. He focuses his attention on portraits and distortion of the human face and figure. Using traditional techniques mixed with a modern style he paints humans with impossibly stretched facial features and limbs. Where the shape and structure of his subjects are out of sync with reality he attempts to bring the characters back into the realistic realm with a mix of modern and traditional techniques of oil painting.
