The dried up lakes in the Mallee region of Victoria, Australia, present an almost infinite number of abstract photographic opportunities. Each season and year the colours change - from bright pinks and pale beiges and yellows through to richer, deeper colours like ochre and apricot. This image is one of a series of photographs called 'Pelican' captured in early Autumn 2024 over the dried lakes in the Mallee.
From a viewpoint of less than 50 metres above the surface of the earth, it can be seen how nature - sometimes modified by human hand - paints its own abstract images, unique and perfect. And these images are constantly changing with the wind, rain and seasons. In this sense, my photographs also represent impermanence and fragility.
