Artwork Description

My family has a love/hate relationship with camping.
Our kids aren't fans. But my wife and I love it. When it does ‘click’, it’s on for young and old.
And this Easter escape to Wingen, NSW was no exception.
We camped here primarily because of the proximity to Barrington Tops.
I shot hundreds of images of the amazing sub-alpine region.
But I keep on coming back to this image of a record of our time there...the aftermath of our first night.
A simple ‘after dinner’ tableau that features everything we love about camping – camp fire glows, chocolate, wine, food, Pringles, coffee and fry ups.
This image was one of those ‘glance over your shoulder and there is the shot’ moments…and it says so much about us as a family.

Artist Bio

Peter Ogden is a landscape photographer based in Sydney, Australia. He studied sculpture at Rochdale College of Art, graphic design at Stockport Tech College and film set design at Chelsea College or Art, all in the UK.

Peter’s day job is Creative Director at a Sydney advertising agency, where he gets to use the skills that he has acquired over the years – writing, art direction and design. At the weekends, early mornings, and late nights, Peter gets to scratch his other creative itch – documenting the Australian landscape.

As a boy born in industrial Manchester, UK, the contrast of Australia’s savagery and spectacle was never more apparent to him than when he first arrived in Perth in 1996. That first experience saw him basking in the stunning vistas of the Nambung National Park whilst using a big stick to fend off large brown snakes as the art director on a commercial photography shoot. That juxtaposition, the incredibly beautiful combined with the incredibly savage, has fascinated him ever since...
