The reverse side of street signs is certainly a good clean surface for graffiti/tag - and recently I've noticed a lot more politicized stuff about than before.
I see these sign paintings as indicative of a culture of restlessness and resistance to an ever changing world - ideas that exist on the reverse or opposite side of 'official' information streams.
