www.peterryanart.com.au I am a Perth based contemporary artist practicing for 10 years. My preferred medium is oil paintings and pencil drawings. I love to put layers of meaning in each artwork and behind a balanced compositing, harmonious colour pallet and detailed brush stokes, I enjoy incorporating my passion for storytelling and aim to create a positive emotion for the viewer.
I am a successful artist, being involved in over 15 galleries, community art exhibitions, joint and solos exhibitions and sold over 130 originals, with oil paintings valued at $10,000. I have been working to raise my profile and painted public art projects, and have been selected to paint for the Water Corporation's 'Splash of Colour' public art project for 3 different commissions. I have recently showed been doing many community artworks with local schools, working with kids design development through to large scale finished artworks and murals.
Artworks begin in a sketchbook, on site of referencing from my photos. The sketch provides me with expressive lines which when transferring to paper, canvas or wood I maintain these styled lines and the authenticity of the original idea. Then layers of oil painting where I love to mix my colours (mostly) on the canvas, finishing with the fine detail lines to add that last touch of contrast a key aspect of my style.
My recognizable style adapts depending on the artwork theme, yet all artworks are vivid and highly detailed. My Australiana series features a Man and a Dog in iconic landscapes which are more realistic artworks keeping in the lines, where the romantic 'Fruit Tree' series with flowing & overlapping brush strokes full of movement and expression. 'Life's a beach' series shows fun and quirkiness of life on the coast, and a series which I continue to develop 'The Giants of WA' , uses illustrative style for the 'giants' interacting with more structured Western Australia's natural and industrial iconic landscapes.
One of my recent career highlights was a successful 2019 exhibition 'Bright Tales' with Donald James Waters OAM.
