Artwork Description

The study of process printing using the colours: cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK) has always been of interest to me. The way the colours interact and combine to create an almost endless colour palette is mind-blowing.

'Multiply' was creating by printing four different sizes of the woodblock font - Helvetica and their corresponding point sizes. Then they were hand inked and individually printed in cyan, magenta and finally yellow in an off-set configuration. This technique showed how overprinting the transparent inks created new colours and textures, resulting in an alluring, multi-coloured, vibrant poster.

The print is created on high quality 280gsm Ice White Wove paper.

A limited edition run of 20 prints were produced. Each print is unique in both style and layout.

These letterpress posters has been hand inked and printed. They are individually signed, numbered and embossed. All posters will be carefully wrapped in tissue paper and shipped in a cardboard tube.

Artist Bio

Fresh Lemon Print by Phil Gambrill is a typographic and letterpress studio creating limited edition art using traditional printing techniques.

Phil is an award-winning graphic designer who started his career as a designer in London's West End. He worked with a number of high-profile music industry clients before co-founding Fresh Lemon UK in 2002.

In 2015 he branched out to Perth, Australia and established Fresh Lemon Pty Ltd. Shortly afterwards Phil reignited his passion for vintage printing processes and started to get ‘hands on’ once again. He imported printing presses, type cases and equipment from around the world to start up Fresh Lemon Print.

He now enjoys nothing more than lifting a fresh print from the press and marvelling at the wonderful imperfections caused by the aging wood type, whilst cursing in frustration as to why certain letters, just won’t print!
