Artwork Description

“The King of the Mountains is the title given to the best climber in a cycling road race”.

This hand printed poster celebrates the Tour de Frances’ greatest Hors Categorie mountain climbs. These gruelling mountain stages define the historic road race and the overall best climber gets to wear the iconic polka dot jersey (le maillot à pois rouge).

Each print names the classic mountains in various shades of Cool Grey, each emerging from the mists of the paper. From the giant mountain passes on Col du Galibier and Col de l'Iseran to the more famous climbs of Alpe d'Huez and Mont Ventoux.

It is created on high quality 200gsm Vellum smooth paper.

This is number 5 in a limited edition run of 7.

Each limited edition, letterpress print has been hand inked, printed and is unique in both style and layout. They are individually signed, numbered and embossed. All posters will be carefully wrapped in tissue paper and shipped in a cardboard tube.

Artist Bio

Fresh Lemon Print by Phil Gambrill is a typographic and letterpress studio creating limited edition art using traditional printing techniques.

Phil is an award-winning graphic designer who started his career as a designer in London's West End. He worked with a number of high-profile music industry clients before co-founding Fresh Lemon UK in 2002.

In 2015 he branched out to Perth, Australia and established Fresh Lemon Pty Ltd. Shortly afterwards Phil reignited his passion for vintage printing processes and started to get ‘hands on’ once again. He imported printing presses, type cases and equipment from around the world to start up Fresh Lemon Print.

He now enjoys nothing more than lifting a fresh print from the press and marvelling at the wonderful imperfections caused by the aging wood type, whilst cursing in frustration as to why certain letters, just won’t print!
