Phil Vercoe is predominantly a landscape/seascape artist, living and working in Mornington on the picturesque Mornington Peninsula. Phil produces pieces that are vibrant, distinctive and unique, focusing mainly on his interpretation of the landscape and the sea. Oil and acrylic are his preferred mediums where layering and the addition of impasto creates a sense of depth and interest. His body of work explores and interprets his passion for rugged seas and large atmospheric vistas. Here he combines tonal blending with bold brush and knife strokes to enhance a sense of depth and drama. Central to his work is the importance of light and how it plays with the colours in an attempt to connect the viewer with that moment in time. Phil has exhibited in many group exhibitions and has sold work to private collectors in Australia and internationally.
My art does need to tell a story and for a moment, at least, instil an emotion that is as individual as the way we all see the world, therefore I want my paintings to form a unique relationship with you. Through art, we can throw aside the restrictions that society places upon us and redefine our relationship with others and nature, to find our own truth. This is what inspires me.
