The Macleay river used to flow out to sea on the southern side of Grassy headland until a flood late in the 19th century broke through near South West Rocks. This has left a long arm of the river sealed off to the sea at Grassy Heads known as the Macleay Arm. It is still an excellent place for water activities although it is slowly sanding up. This scene was taken from my Kayak looking south with the Stuart’s Point Bridge in the distance.
