Artwork Description

Australia’s plants and flowers have a distinctly sculptural beauty, shaped by bold forms, intricate textures and unusual structures. Their silhouettes combine strong geometry with delicate detail, creating forms that feel both highly refined and unmistakably wild.

This composition of grevillea flowers and foliage emphasises their delicate and layered nature. It is mounted in a black wooden frame with white mat and tempered glass front. It has a metal hanging mount on the back and comes with a wall hook so that you can put it straight onto the wall.

I've coined the term 'laser drawing' for the technique as it uses controlled lines, marks and tonal variation to create an artistic interpretation of a subject, much like drawing in white and grey across the surface of the paper.

Artist Bio

I am a new artist living in Brisbane.

I enjoy when simple and atypical creative processes come together to create something beautiful. To paraphrase the late, great Terry Pratchett in his novel 'Hogfather':

"Take the universe and grind it down to the finest powder and sieve it through the finest sieve and then show me one atom of beauty"

And yet somehow there are so many different, often unexpected beautiful things around us.

I love to work in a range of materials, and with a range of processes. Currently I'm working a lot with laser cut and engraved elements, as well as a pen plotter which has allowed me to use a mix of interesting colours and textures. While I love black and working with shades, I also love glorious in-your-face colour. I especially love working with materials that have innate complexity, making each piece completely unique and with its own history.
