Artwork Description

Evening Light, Manarola

This painting captures the quiet vibrancy of Manarola at blue hour, when the last natural light softens the village and warm café lights begin to glow.

I was drawn to the contrast between the cool dusk tones of the stone and the warm, inviting light spilling from the terraces and restaurants. Rather than focusing on fine detail, I worked with layered colour and subtle shifts in temperature to create atmosphere and depth.

The composition leads the eye from the clustered buildings down to the illuminated terrace and across the bridge, where cooler tones balance the warmth above. Palette knife work in the rocks adds texture and structure, while softer transitions in the upper buildings suggest the fading light of evening.

This piece is part of my ongoing exploration of colour relationships and Mediterranean light, balancing structure with a more expressive, semi-abstract approach.

Artist Bio

Piercarlo Cuneo is a contemporary artist based in Australia, originally from Genoa, Italy. His work is inspired by landscapes both real and imagined—from the rugged Mediterranean coastline to the quiet, shifting atmospheres of the Blue Mountains.

Working in acrylic and mixed media, Piercarlo creates textured, expressive paintings that balance abstraction with a strong sense of place. Layered colour fields and subtle gestures evoke mood, memory, and the feeling of being within a landscape rather than simply observing it.

His paintings range from vibrant and dynamic to calm and introspective, inviting viewers to pause and connect on a personal level. Influenced by both European and Australian environments, his work reflects a dialogue between nature, light, and time.

Piercarlo’s artworks are held in private collections and are available for collectors seeking pieces that bring depth, atmosphere, and a sense of quiet presence into a space.
