Artwork Description

Missing One is about absence: the gap you notice before you know what’s gone. The grid promises order, and the gold mark both interrupts it and holds the empty place, like a note left behind or a spot marked on a map. It can read as loss, as something saved for later, or simply as a pause in the pattern.

The warm gold catches the light against the deep black, so the work shifts gently through the day. It suits a calm space where it can be looked at slowly.

Artist Bio

A Newcastle based artist.

Paul's work focuses on bold and minimal designs, often dealing with contrast of colours, particularly black on white, representing thought, design and landscape. It is these forms that prompt Paul's works, generally applying the medium of ink on paper and sometimes canvas. Please inquire if you would like work on a different material.

The artist uses 100% cotton paper, in natural colour with deckled edges, known for purity, permanence and durability. This form, combined with Japanese ink, provides a contrasting and warm style of works. Japanese ink, generally on a single loaded brush and open space are used to create a gesture, a line, a spiral or stacked rhythm, a pulse. Works are designed to be quiet by not empty.

Works on paper are on Natural coloured Paper, the colour is a very light off White, it may sometimes photograph at different shades and may appear whiter than when viewed with the eye.

All works are shipped from the artist's studio promptly; works may take up to 1 week to leave the artist's studio.
