Realise the value in your art

Need to free up wall space or simply want to change your art collection? If you’ve ever wondered how much your art collection is worth and how to sell it, we’re here to help.

Easy. Transparent. Fair.

The Podium provides collectors with an easy platform to sell their art collection. Simply list and sell. Sellers get a free and fair valuation based on the current sales of the artist and access to Australia’s largest art collecting audience.

No buyer’s premium

One price. No surprises. Bypass archaic, expensive buyer premiums with our innovative model. Buyers don’t pay over the odds or any hidden fees.

Better for everyone

Artists receive 10% of the sale, double the current Resale Royalty Scheme, even on artworks that currently aren’t eligible (and that’s a lot). It’s a win-win-win for artists, sellers and buyers.

The Podium by

The Podium is designed to be a hassle-free, safe and easy way for collectors to sell part or all of their accumulated art collection. There’s no stuffy auction house or ‘old-world’ gallery representative. Instead, Bluethumb offers what we do best: a user-friendly, online platform to connect true art enthusiasts.

What’s more, The Podium is part of Bluethumb’s commitment to building technology that improves the lives of Australian artists, and Australia’s arts ecosystem. Existing collectors can resell their art to new collectors, and artworks can be traced as they move between collections. This allows us to pay artists a royalty even on the resale of their artworks - every time it changes hands through us.

How it works

"Having a Bluethumb profile is a no-brainer for emerging artists. I've never had my art sold on the secondary market, and I'm excited to see the reaction from art collectors to the Podium."

Frequently Asked Questions

The Podium is the simple, no-fuss way for collectors to resell artworks from their own collection. Whether it’s one piece or their entire collection of masterpieces, they can upload pieces to sell and new collectors can purchase those works for their own collection. The Podium removes the stuffy nonsense (and excessive costs) of reselling and buying previously-owned art in a fast and enjoyable way
Currently, any collector can apply to become a Podium Vendor to sell artworks that they have previously purchased on Bluethumb. At this stage we’re only registering expressions of interest to sell. You can create your profile and get verified in order to start selling as soon as we go live with the platform in December 2021. Podium Vendors must be 18 years or over.
The Australian government created the Artists’ Resale Royalty scheme pursuant to the Resale Royalty Right for Visual Artists Act 2009 (Cth) (AR Scheme) in 2010 in order for Australian artists to receive royalties if their artworks were sold on a secondary market and the sale met certain eligibility criteria. If that criteria is met, artists can receive 5% of the sale price. Here at Bluethumb, we think Australian artists deserve more than 5%. That's why we require our Podium Vendors to provide a 10% art resale royalty to Australian artists, regardless of whether a sale would meet the government eligibility criteria. The vast majority of works available on Bluethumb are sold on the ‘Primary Market’. That means they are sold directly from the Australian artists we love to support. We’ve been helping artists sell their artworks directly to collectors since we first set up in 2012. The Podium was set up in 2021 as a response to repeated requests from collectors to provide a ‘Secondary Market’ platform for them to resell part of their artwork collection to new collectors. In order to easily differentiate between the two sale types, you’ll see the word “Resale” appear on the artwork listings that are being sold by our collectors on The Podium.

Meet the team behind the Home of Australian Artists

Bluethumb was founded in 2012, with a mission to empower Australia’s artists and open up the world of original art to everyday collectors. We now represent over 15,000 emerging and established artists from Australia and work with 20 of Australia’s remote Aboriginal Art Centres. This gives our collectors access to more Australian artists and their art than anywhere else in the world.
