Artwork Description

Stillness in the Rain presents a quiet, reflective moment inspired by the subtle calm that arrives just before rainfall.

At the centre of the piece, an Australian magpie is captured in a state of stillness, inviting the viewer to pause and observe. The composition focuses on restraint and simplicity, allowing the subject’s presence to emerge through fine linework and tonal contrast.

Created using pyrography, each mark is carefully burned into the wood by hand. This slow and deliberate process requires patience and precision, as every line is permanent and cannot be undone. The natural grain of the timber becomes part of the image, adding warmth and subtle variation to the work.

Though small in scale, this piece reflects an intimate moment of quiet observation, where time feels briefly suspended.

This is an original, one-of-a-kind artwork.

Artist Bio

Polly HO is a Pyrography Artist and illustrator born in Hong Kong and currently living in Brisbane, Australia. She is obsessed with black and white line arts. She self- published the silent picture book, 'The Next Stop' to evoke the daily emotions of Hong Kong people. Recently, She has focused on nature-themed pyrography art creation.

Pyrography artworks were made by hand-burn but not a laser printing machine. Pyrography is a traditional art form from ancient China, Han dynasty, having almost 2000 years of history. Pyrography technique also was classified as intangible cultural heritage in China in 2021. With less and less people mastering pyrography art, it is my responsibility to promote and continue this art skills.
