Artwork Description

Sonne reimagines a familiar cultural icon through a bold, contemporary pop art lens, transforming innocence into something more ambiguous and quietly unsettling. Drawing on the visual language of comic art and mass media, the work explores themes of illusion, control, and the darker undercurrents beneath polished narratives.

The central figure retains her recognisable identity, yet is rendered with a stylised, graphic intensity that shifts the focus from individual expression to symbolic presence. The iconic poisoned apple becomes both focal point and metaphor—referencing temptation, manipulation, and the seductive power of image-driven culture.

Executed in a striking palette of deep blues, reds, and sharp tonal contrasts, the composition balances visual impact with conceptual tension. The work sits between nostalgia and critique, using the familiarity of pop culture imagery to question the narratives we consume and the roles we unconsciously accept.

Sandy Warhol is a professional pop artist with over 30 years of experience creating bold, colour-driven contemporary work. Beginning in 1988 with a hand-painted denim jacket and custom comic characters for a Sydney clothing store in the 1990s, Her practice has evolved into the ALTERS pop art series.

ALTERS focuses on faceless neon portraiture, combining high-chroma colour with minimal, graphic composition influenced by 80s pop art and contemporary design language. Each work is created as a statement piece intended for modern interior spaces and private collections.
