Artwork Description

This artwork is collection of all the traditional motifs drawn in madhubani/Mithila style of paintings. It started with drawing different subjects on small art cards during lockdown last year and turned into this ambitious project where I brought each of these drawing together on a single large canvas. This is a collection of 105 drawings of various motifs with 57 patterned squares, making it 162 tiny works of art put together. There are animals, fish and birds in pairs representing eternal love, drawings of sun, moon, earth representing their significance in our lives, Intricately detailed drawings of various elements from nature on a bright splash of background is sure to bring in joy to any space!
Madhubani / Mithila paintings are traditionally practised in North eastern part of India. These paintings are consistently two dimensional and no effort at perspective is what makes them unique.

Artist Bio

I am a self-taught, freelance artist living in Melbourne. My work has strong reflections of culture and traditions from India, a place where I was born and brought up. I am trained as a therapist and I have worked with people with developmental disabilities for over fifteen years in India. Art and expression had always been an integral part of my work and this has enriched me both as an individual and as an artist. My work is inspired by individuality of all things past and present. I have a keen interest in traditional Indian art forms namely Madhubani, Warli and Gond. I find myself continually drawn to the intricacies of these age-old folk art styles and enjoy retelling the stories through my contemporary renditions.
I strongly believe art is a continuous journey and I get to learn something new every day.

My works have been exhibited in 3 Solo Exhibitions in Melbourne. I have been part of Creative Spaces Art Exhibitions along with numerous other group exhibitions in Melbourne for last 5 years.
