Artist Bio

Priscilla Corbell-Moore is a part-time, Adelaide based acrylic artist. As an emerging artist, Priscilla is initiating a bluethumb presence by making her large scale pieces available for sale exclusively on this platform. Her original paintings will never be reproduced in print.

Coastal abstracts are primarily the expression of Priscilla's paintings. Her home based studio is located just across the road from picturesque Tennyson beach and West Lakes in Adelaide, South Australia. Priscilla can hear the sound of waves washing up on the sand as she paints. Her inspiration is constantly drawn from the local beach surrounds - the seashore, the ancient Tennyson Sand Dunes and local marine flora and fauna. Often painting in the evenings, when her young children have gone to bed, Priscilla gets into a flow and hours will slip by without her noticing. Painting is Priscillas's Ikigai, a Japanese word generally understood to mean a passion that gives joy and value in life.

Priscilla's painting style is expressive, modern, abstract. Use of palette knife and rapid stroke of the brush create a sense of uplift, light, contrast and tranquility. Largely self-taught, Priscilla has undertaken private mentorship by well-known Adelaide based artist, Josef Felber.

Priscilla's debut solo exhibition took place as part of the SALA Festival in August 2021, titled 'Art for a Cause: Poetry & Painting'. It was a non-for-profit fundraiser for homelessness and all proceeds went to Adelaide based charities. Collaborating with a local poet, Linda Kohler, each artwork was accompanied by a poem.

Building on the natural connection between art and poetry, a poem or extract thereof, has been carefully selected to compliment each of her paintings listed on bluethumb.

Over the goldbrown sand my children
run in the wind. The sky's immense
with spring's new radiance.
(Extract from the poem 'Estuary', written by Gwen Harwood (1920-95))

All of Priscilla's paintings are to be appreciated up close up and at a distance. Priscilla only uses artist quality acrylics on professional, heavyweight 12oz primed, unbleached, acid free, 100% cotton canvas, stretched on 38mm deep solid US pine stretcher bars. Each one is finished with no less than three coats of high gloss varnish to provide maximum protection and enhancement of colour over the lifespan her paintings.
