Artwork Description

“Here is the land.
Here is the Sky.
Here are my friends and here am I.”

“Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” —Martin Luther King Jr.

Growing up, every single day; the artist saw her father save lives and her mother bring new lives into this world. Her father was an orthopaedic surgeon and her mother a gynecologist. Was she proud of them? She was indeed. Was she inspired to become a doctor herself? No, not at all.

In addition to being incredible professionals, her parents were incredible at parenting. She was always encouraged to dig deep, know herself very well, they involved her in important decision making discussions and always honoured her opinions even when she was barely 3 years old. She was never spoon fed, brain washed or any of these Asian family stereotypes in parenting. She was introduced to the potential of the power of truly discovering oneself. At a very early age, the artist knew her weakness, her strength, basically who she was? Why was she on this planet? What role she wanted to play?

“I am” is an original painting by Priya Gore comes deep from her soul; it represents that realisation or even the start to a journey a person embarks upon when they choose the path of understanding themselves more and a feeling comes from within - “I am”.

“If you are not afraid of the voices inside you, you will not fear the critics outside you.” —Natalie Goldberg
