Acrylic Paint on stretched canvas, ready to hang.

My work is often inspired by real-life that is set within a black and white photo. I find that this initial process allows me to have a wide range for my imagination to run wild, distort the truth or to present subversive messages about ourselves in the Australian landscape. This piece has been influenced by a black and white photo (most probably taken in the late 1800s) that is from our family's historical archives. The photo is now unclear and it is difficult to see the detail due to its age, it is also torn down the middle. When the viewer looks carefully at the painting, they will see it was a time of great difficulty, but it was also a great time for many opportunities. It is a shared history that is so different for each teller who is presenting their story, the stories of others and 'other' as the obvious invisible character in this narrative of images.
