Artwork Description

This atmospheric cityscape captures St Peter’s Basilica reflected in the Tiber, with the arches of the bridge glowing against a softly changing sky. Layers of blue, violet and warm gold create a sense of stillness and depth, while loose brushwork suggests the gentle movement of water and fading light. The scene feels timeless, inviting the viewer to pause and take in Rome at a quiet, reflective moment.

This painting is not framed and will require framing.

Artist Bio

I started drawing portraits in the early 90s and then moved quickly to life drawing, which I loved. My mother painted in her retirement years and encouraged me to paint landscapes with oils. I'm continually discovering new things as an artist and open to learning about different styles and methods. I've attended many art courses but these days prefer to work in my art studio at home. I still enjoy charcoal and pastel life drawing but discovered a love of painting in abstracts and moved to acrylic painting as a result. Most Sundays you will find me painting and posting photos on Instagram (rjmcdiarmid_art) for #AbstractSunday. I love the freedom of abstract painting. That said, I've recently returned to oil painting traditional landscapes and love painting Venice in particular.

Professionally I've worked in the book industry for over three decades in sales, marketing and management roles but now have my own business working with publishers. I specialise in outsourcing solutions and consulting services. And I teach book marketing and sales at uni. I love it.
