I am fascinated with the human figure, human expression and the connection we have to the natural landscape. My paintings and drawings are often romantic, nostalgic, powerful and sensual.
Current work reflects a time in my life of deep introspection and personal transformation. The imagery of recent paintings concerns mythology, beauty, weightlessness and the magic of colour and tone, as they describe the human form and the beauty of the landscape.
A core theme in my paintings is the element of water.
Dreaming stories across Australia show the connection of ancestral beings related to water sources. In many cultures water is said to be the link between the physical and the spirit world.
I aim to create conversation around identity and how our connection to place and community informs this.
My work is a fusion of realism and abstraction. I work with oil and acrylic using many layers of colour and glazes to achieve an ethereal and magical quality.
