Easter Lilies

We always had a couple of clusters of Easter lilies around our property and I remember being little and as soon as it got a little colder, running to all the spots to check if they had bloomed. Even though I'm bigger now and live somewhere completely different, whenever I see the Easter Lilies I think of home. This piece is a love letter to home and those days.

This piece is based on a photo I took at Abbotsford Convent of some beautiful lilies blooming in a planted garden. The sunlight was shining through the petals and almost making the heart of the flower glow. I worked on this piece on and off since February and I'm so excited to share it with you.

Rachel Grove is a Melbourne-based artist who works in oils, watercolour and gouache. Rachel is a self taught artist who started learning to paint during the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020. Rachel's art explores themes of wonder in the natural world. Her work is inspired by the way that light can influence and change perceptions of colour.

In addition to painting natural subjects, Rachel's passion is portraiture. She aims to capture a sense of the sitter in a particular moment in time, through the use of unexpected colour and bold brush strokes.

Rachel's other large body of work is her commissioned family and pet portraits. Rachel is passionate about creating pieces of work that are meaningful and capture the story of the client.

Rachel's dream is to one day have her own studio where she can teach painting and share the magic of creating with her community.
