Blue By You

I have been obsessed with the form and function of bikes for many years and photograph and sketch them wherever I travel. I spotted this bike by a wall in Italy, not locked up, just waiting patiently for its owner.

There are several layers to this artwork. I have used music posters taken from streets and cafes as well as fragments from old books and maps to give the overlaying oil painting texture and an urban feel.

Rachel-Lee Murray is a mixed media artist based in Newcastle. A former reporter/producer for Channel Nine and later a primary school teacher, she discovered her true passion for painting and photography in the early 2000's. Rachel's other passion is travelling and her work often incorporates places she has visited and urban culture. Many of her current works reflect her love of bicycles. Rachel also enjoys painting contemporary portraits of people and pets.
