Artwork Description

What girl hasn't wanted a pink bike at some point in their life? This is a thought-provoking work with modern symbols and an old starlet, Marilyn Monroe, in the mix. It speaks of busy times and aspirations where a zebra crossing is but a small chance to stop, look right, look left and breathe.

To develop an urban theme, this piece features fragments of maps, old children's books and music posters I have scavenged from city streets and cafes.

The original work is also for sale on this site. It is mixed media on wood, featuring layers of collage, acrylic and oil paint. (101 x 76cm)

Rachel-Lee Murray is a mixed media artist based in Newcastle. A former reporter/producer for Channel Nine and later a primary school teacher, she discovered her true passion for painting and photography in the early 2000's. Rachel's other passion is travelling and her work often incorporates places she has visited and urban culture. Many of her current works reflect her love of bicycles. Rachel also enjoys painting contemporary portraits of people and pets.
