Original Artwork's Description

Ready, Steady, Go! Who won? Life is highlighted by big events, but by living in the present every moment counts. This painting captures a moment in time after the race at Icebergs Pool in Bondi, Sydney. The swimmers excitement, disappointment, reflection and future planning are mirrored in the surging waves, turbulent ocean and calm reflective water in the pool. Whilst this painting is of a single moment, the viewer can still wonder who won the race? What will happen next? The waves will continue to surge, the sunlight still shimmers on the pool and the people will go about their day. No matter who won the race, life moves on and we need to look to the horizon across the expansive ocean for what comes next and be thankful for every precious moment.

Artist Bio

Rachel Rae has been creative throughout her life, but whilst living in Spain in an apartment overlooking the ocean she was inspired to dedicate her time to focus on her painting art practice. Being an avid traveller and walker, Rachel Rae witnesses many life moments which is the inspiration for her artwork, painting personal records of flora, fauna, people and landscapes.

Rachel Rae paints in acrylics, quickly highlighting the movement of the landscape in a stationary painting, fascinated by the movement of nature contrasting with the static man-made objects and how humans, animals and nature co-exist. However by spending the time to paint the smaller details and minutiae, it allows time for reflection during the process. Capturing personal records of the flora, fauna, people and landscapes in life’s moments creates a memory and connection to past and present experiences.

Rachel Rae creates personal paintings of past and present experiences creating memory and connection to the vibrant colour and uniqueness of the world around us.
