Artwork Description

This work is from a recent collection of works on paper in which I explore colour, pattern and design within a contemporary art context.
My work references Geometric Abstraction, Op Art and Modernism but with a 'feminine' (and feminist) angle in that I use watercolours (as opposed to hard edges) and bright and vivid colours and patterns which the viewer may associate with textiles and traditional feminine arts and crafts.
My artworks are usually modest in size which gives them an intimacy as opposed to the dominance of large scale works.
With the beautiful colours, patterns and delicate use of water colour this work will enliven any room and create interest and warmth.

Artist Bio

Thanks for taking an interest in my artwork and art practice, spanning over 30 years now!

I explore the qualities of the materials I use and emphasise those qualities in my work, which is usually wall based and relates to painting. I often experiment with alternative materials like wool, satin and Perspex. A love of strong colour and rich textures informs my work.
My work is always abstract and relates to Abstract Expressionism and Geometric Abstraction.
There is a feminist component in my work: instead of the hard edges and large scale aspects of Modernist paintings I make small scale, intimate works, using materials associated with traditional 'feminine' arts and crafts, subverting the imposing and 'masculine' elements of the male-dominated tradition of Modernism.
Having completed an Arts Degree at Griffith University I then commenced a Visual Arts Degree at Sydney College of the Arts in 1997 and specialized in painting. Since completing my degrees, I have exhibited extensively in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Several of my artworks have been purchased by Artbank, Deutscher Menzies and private collectors.
