Artwork Description

For 30 years I have been a practicing artist with an interest in materials.
My work relates to Modernism, Op Art and Geometric Abstraction but with a 'feminine' and feminist influence in that it is small in scale, resembles patterns and designs more closely associated with traditionally feminine crafts and in the use of 'feminine' materials like wool, satin and water colours.
My recent body of work, including 'Op Grid' is a continuation of these themes.
This work would be a vibrant, uplifting and interesting addition to any room and being modest in scale it encourages a more intimate and 'up close' engagement with the work.

Artist Bio

Thanks for taking an interest in my artwork and art practice, spanning over 30 years now!

I explore the qualities of the materials I use and emphasise those qualities in my work, which is usually wall based and relates to painting. I often experiment with alternative materials like wool, satin and Perspex. A love of strong colour and rich textures informs my work.
My work is always abstract and relates to Abstract Expressionism and Geometric Abstraction.
There is a feminist component in my work: instead of the hard edges and large scale aspects of Modernist paintings I make small scale, intimate works, using materials associated with traditional 'feminine' arts and crafts, subverting the imposing and 'masculine' elements of the male-dominated tradition of Modernism.
Having completed an Arts Degree at Griffith University I then commenced a Visual Arts Degree at Sydney College of the Arts in 1997 and specialized in painting. Since completing my degrees, I have exhibited extensively in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Several of my artworks have been purchased by Artbank, Deutscher Menzies and private collectors.
