Artwork Description

'Origami Collage' is constructed by gluing tiny squares of origami paper and off-cuts from some of my previous artworks (technically, a bit like a mosaic).
My aim is to make use of materials and scraps that may otherwise be thrown away, as a way of re-purposing them and making a new artwork. In creating this artwork, I've selected small pieces of paper with the most vivid and interesting colours, patterns and as a result this collage would be a beautiful, vibrant and interesting feature in any space.

Artist Bio

Thanks for taking an interest in my artwork and art practice, spanning over 30 years now!

I explore the qualities of the materials I use and emphasise those qualities in my work, which is usually wall based and relates to painting. I often experiment with alternative materials like wool, satin and Perspex. A love of strong colour and rich textures informs my work.
My work is always abstract and relates to Abstract Expressionism and Geometric Abstraction.
There is a feminist component in my work: instead of the hard edges and large scale aspects of Modernist paintings I make small scale, intimate works, using materials associated with traditional 'feminine' arts and crafts, subverting the imposing and 'masculine' elements of the male-dominated tradition of Modernism.
Having completed an Arts Degree at Griffith University I then commenced a Visual Arts Degree at Sydney College of the Arts in 1997 and specialized in painting. Since completing my degrees, I have exhibited extensively in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Several of my artworks have been purchased by Artbank, Deutscher Menzies and private collectors.
