Artwork Description

This work is made from a series of intricate woolen stitches on linen which I then cut into rows to create this geometric design.
My interest throughout my art practice is to explore materials associated with traditional 'feminine' crafts while linking them to Modernist paintings.
Being small in scale, this work encourages intimacy and engagement from the viewer.
This artwork would be a lovely addition to any space with it's rich colours, soft textures and interesting design.
(The tapestry wool that I've used is resistant to any insects).

Artist Bio

Thanks for taking an interest in my artwork and art practice, spanning over 30 years now!

I explore the qualities of the materials I use and emphasise those qualities in my work, which is usually wall based and relates to painting. I often experiment with alternative materials like wool, satin and Perspex. A love of strong colour and rich textures informs my work.
My work is always abstract and relates to Abstract Expressionism and Geometric Abstraction.
There is a feminist component in my work: instead of the hard edges and large scale aspects of Modernist paintings I make small scale, intimate works, using materials associated with traditional 'feminine' arts and crafts, subverting the imposing and 'masculine' elements of the male-dominated tradition of Modernism.
Having completed an Arts Degree at Griffith University I then commenced a Visual Arts Degree at Sydney College of the Arts in 1997 and specialized in painting. Since completing my degrees, I have exhibited extensively in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Several of my artworks have been purchased by Artbank, Deutscher Menzies and private collectors.
