Artwork Description

This work relates to painting, being wall-based, and the use of wool resembles paint but instead I've used a material more aligned with the traditions of craft, in a contemporary art context.
The work is constructed by sewing stitches of wool onto a linen surface. Each row is then cut down the centre to form strips of soft 'carpet'.
With the soft textures, cheerful tones and interesting technique 'Sunflower' would be a lovely addition to brighten any space.

Artist Bio

Thanks for taking an interest in my artwork and art practice, spanning over 30 years now!

I explore the qualities of the materials I use and emphasise those qualities in my work, which is usually wall based and relates to painting. I often experiment with alternative materials like wool, satin and Perspex. A love of strong colour and rich textures informs my work.
My work is always abstract and relates to Abstract Expressionism and Geometric Abstraction.
There is a feminist component in my work: instead of the hard edges and large scale aspects of Modernist paintings I make small scale, intimate works, using materials associated with traditional 'feminine' arts and crafts, subverting the imposing and 'masculine' elements of the male-dominated tradition of Modernism.
Having completed an Arts Degree at Griffith University I then commenced a Visual Arts Degree at Sydney College of the Arts in 1997 and specialized in painting. Since completing my degrees, I have exhibited extensively in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Several of my artworks have been purchased by Artbank, Deutscher Menzies and private collectors.
