Artwork Description

I'm always interested in our the space will impact my models; for this picture, the late afternoon sun was streaming through the window and caught her mid step. I liked how the light and shade highlighted unusual aspects of her body, but she was none the wiser.

Artist Bio

Rae started drawing during March 2020, and whilst predominately being self taught, Rae exhibited her first piece in the Grayscale: Group Exhibition at the Brunswick Street Gallery in 2021.

A principal subject of Rae's work is the female body, and she currently interested in exploring what it means to be vulnerable in an increasingly intrusive society. In particular, Rae is interested in the ongoing ramifications of a disemboweled mind and body, and how these two elements can reconnect to work to protect the self.

Growing up in remote Queensland and now living in metropolitan Melbourne, Rae is also interested in the diversity of the Australian Landscape and exploring how the varied environments continue to live on through our experience of them in isolation.

Using her own photographs and stills from videos of live models, Rae uses charcoal on paper, as the fragility of the material helps to convey the vulnerability and softness of her subjects.
Rae hopes to exhibit this year and continue to create pieces that help her connect to the world around.
