My artwork evolves after a new location has been explored at length. In one location in may be a series of new birds. In another it may be the colour as light falls through rain in the middle of a sunny rainforest.
Birds have always been a focus. I see birds as the barometers of a location; they signify a healthy eco-system. When I travel to a new destination I am quick to obtain a bird list for the region and start my observations. I try to count the birds I see and the variety of species.
I am most interested in personality so each artwork is an expressionistic view of each unique bird.
John Olsen and Bill Leak are two Australian Artists who have always inspired me. They bring life and character to any Aussie animal and make them iconic.
Abstract expressionism has also been a focus for my work. In landscape and in abstraction the marks are the dominating force. The marks describes the energy of the location, the emotion felt in nature, it is pure joy.
Ultimately if my work can take people back to nature or help people observe nature more than I feel as an Artist I have done my job. We all need to see more and often. It is the only way to hopefully inspire preservation.
