Artwork Description

A painting from the window of a ruin south of Geraldton, Western Australia. There is something about a window that draws me in, particularly in outback Australia. The thought that a family once lived here and saw the same view makes it precious.

Artist Bio

Ralph Baker is a celebrated Australian Plein Air Artist. Ralph grew up and currently resides in Perth, Western Australia, with his family.

Inspired by his artist grandmother, Ralph has always been fascinated by painting. He believes that paintings can say so much more about a subject than any other media.

Ralph pursued a career in the arts and studied Art & Design at WAIT (now Curtin University) from 1974 to 75, became a founding member of the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children (PMH) Art Advisory Committee (1987 to 94). He worked in the medical illustration department at PMH before running his own illustration business Ralph Baker Illustration from 1994 to 2004. Through this business, he provided a wide variety of illustrative services to hospitals, universities, private medical companies and research and development enterprises and is currently the Manager of the Medical Multimedia Design Department at Royal Perth Hospital.
