An abstract expressionist artist, I have exhibited regularly since 1994, mainly in Western Australia, before moving to Sydney in 2016. I work mostly in acrylics.
Having trained originally in architecture, I gained an essential Bauhaus / Fine Arts approach to art and practice – invaluable in my later Art Diploma. My work could be seen as “traditional” Abstract Expressionism (is there such a thing?), but moves to be subtle and feeling-based.
Patrons who purchase my work report being affected by it both aesthetically and emotionally.
I am interested in creating beauty.
I have held solo exhibitions at Disorder Gallery East Sydney, (online 2021) and Francis Keevil Gallery Double Bay (2018) and have shown in group shows at Wellington Gallery (2021) and at Stella Downer and Grace Cossington Smith with Square One Studios, and with SQ1 in Darlinghurst. I have ongoing work at Kerrie Lowe Gallery, Newtown
Since Covid my work has softened; I welcomed the virus-forced time out as a chance to review and reflect, attempting to be more direct, more subtle, using fewer motifs and softer tones..
Recently I have appeared in Art/Edit magazine (Spring 2019) and in the September 2021 edition of Art Almanac.
My website is at www.ralphstanton.com. It contains further examples of my work as well as my long exhibition history and a blog with additional information. Especially the “virtual gallery” of 2021.
