This artwork was inspired by the sadness and disbelief I felt when the Russia Ukraine war broke out. I married into a proud Ukrainian family that has accepted me and my children with open arms. They have helped me to learn about the Ukrainian people and their culture. One art form Pysanky, that is done on eggs captured my eye immediately. The intricacy, detail, and care that was put on into these artworks was astounding.
I wanted to use this art form to convey what happens to a group of people when they are pushed into a corner and their joy, love, and art...must be stifled by the reality of war and violence.
The bullets are 5.56mm commonly referred to as NATO rounds. Essentially the reason why the situation arose.
