HOLEY MOLEY is part of an ongoing series exploring the continuous line playing with the shapes and textures found in nature. The contours of the fallen tree bark and its markings set a playing field for the line work that's not linear or square.
The original artwork measures roughly 49x16cm. It isn't flat, and has many ridges, cracks, holes, curves and gnarly pieces that add to its beauty. Pink paint marker on raw fallen tree bark, finished with 2 coats of satin varnish.
I fell in love with this piece the moment I saw it. It has a reddish tinge to the wood that is bought out even more when in sunlight. The top of it reminded me of the shape of the top of Scotland, and the holes that I'd have to work the line around sealed the deal.
Within twenty seconds of picking it up, I knew I'd be calling it Holey Moley!
