Painted from Life, this scene is depicted using a modern tonal impressionist approach. Utilising pared back essential brushstrokes that follow the contour of the forms depicted with tonal colour. I have adopted a direct approach with tonal colour doing the foreshortening and perspective on the forms and their position in space. Painted en pleinair to capture the light.

Ray enjoys tonal impressionist oil painting, the study of light, in the tradition of early Australian artists (Meldrum et al). He challenges himself to keeping it simple and painterly.
Ray is a fellow and signatory member of the Victorian Artists Society and his works appear in collections in Victoria, interstate and internationally. He has also won numerous awards.
