Artwork Description

Embrace imperfection.

My latest collection was inspired by the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi, an idea centered on the acceptance of imperfection and the transience of all things.

Wabi Sabi Five is the largest piece in the collection, and features heavily detailed black brushwork, against greys and other neutrals. This piece will look simply stunning in most settings.

Artist Bio

Rebecca Anne Maclean is a self-taught abstract painter, digital artist, and visual artist who has honed her deeply intuitive, process-driven practice outside of formal training.
She employs acrylics and mixed media on textured canvases, blending modern abstraction with minimalist sensibility through layered washes, gestural marks, and subtle tonal shifts.
Her art explores the tension between chaos and calm, drawing on dualities, nature, and the philosophy of wabi-sabi. Each piece radiates quiet intensity, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and connect with raw emotions beneath the surface.
Featured in multiple curations by Saatchi Art, Bluethumb, Tacit and more, Rebecca’s works evoke a timeless sense of luxury, expansiveness and reflection and have been sold to collectors across the globe within both residential and commercial projects.
Originally hailing from the Orkney Islands in the North of Scotland, Rebecca draws endless inspiration from island life, nature, emotion, consciousness and the experience of being human.
