Artwork Description

Fruity Still Life
I have always had a passion for still life both in imagery and sculptural form. In this body of work, I have taken everyday fruits and moulded them using techniques learned whilst working at the SA Museums in the 3D department, to create my own fruity still life.
As a glass artist, blown glass is my main choice of material but have recently embarked on journey to use the recycled blown glass and bio resin to create this new body of work.
Clear glass can me re melted and re-used, whereas the coloured glass cannot due to the chemical compounds and minerals used to make colour, therefore the excess coloured glass created becomes a bi-product of glass blowing.
Bio Resin is an non toxic food safe resin and the production of this resin consumes less energy lowing the impact on the environment. . (A bio-resin is a resin that derives some or all of its constituent monomers from biological sources. Today's sources are plant-based, usually corn or soybean by-products from bio-diesel fuel refinement. Other candidates include sugar cane, sugar beets, potatoes, lignocellulose, whey and algae).
I am quite passionate about recycling and re purposing materials, giving them a new identity, a new life; to be admired once again.
